The head of the White House, Donald Trump, said on July 31 that Greenland's transition to U.S. control was possible before the expiration of his presidency.

"I would really make such a bet," he said in an interview with Real America's Voice, posted on the Youtube channel.

Trump stressed that Greenland is important to the United States.

On July 7, Trump reiterated that Greenland should be under U.S. control. According to him, disagreements over Greenland's ownership negatively affect Washington's relations with other NATO countries. Trump also noted that Denmark does not allocate sufficient funds to fully support the island, whereas it is of great importance to the United States.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced on July 8 that despite renewed discussions from Washington about the sale of Greenland to the United States, Denmark's position has not changed - the island is not for sale. Frederiksen added that Denmark and Greenland demand that the allies respect their sovereignty, territorial integrity and the right of Greenlanders to self-determination.
