Searches were conducted in Moscow City in the case of embezzlement of 144 million rubles

A series of searches were conducted in the offices of the network of cryptocurrency exchangers located in the Federation Vostok tower (Moscow City) after the theft of 144 million rubles. Izvestia learned about this on July 31.

The victim of the crime was a man named Vladimir R., who came under the influence of intruders. They pretended to be employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia and convinced the owner of a large sum to transfer it to them. The operation took place through one of the capital's crypto exchanges.

At the moment, all exchange points have been temporarily closed. In addition, dozens of people were detained in the building, eight of whom have already been given a preventive measure.

On the same day, the Russian government imposed a ban on cryptocurrency mining in Moscow, the Moscow region and a separate territory of the Kursk Region, which will be in effect from August 15, 2026 to December 31, 2032.

A few days earlier, on July 21, the Russian State Duma passed a law on the introduction of comprehensive regulation of the circulation of digital currencies and digital rights in the country. According to it, from July 1, 2027, the activities of only those crypto exchanges and representatives of this field who have been registered in a special state register will be allowed.
