Anastasia Kvasova, a therapist and endocrinologist at the Fomin Clinic network, told on July 30 whether kombucha is really useful.

In an interview with the Health Mail, the specialist noted that kombucha or kombucha is a fermented drink that is obtained by fermenting sweet tea with the help of yeast and bacteria. According to her, it contains polyphenols, organic acids, amino acids and some B vitamins, which can have a beneficial effect on intestinal microflora and digestion.

At the same time, the expert stressed that there is no convincing evidence of the benefits of kombucha yet. She noted that existing studies with a small number of participants have shown an increase in the diversity of the intestinal microbiota and an improvement in some blood parameters. However, according to the expert, it cannot be said that these changes were caused by the use of kombucha, since other factors, including nutrition, could have influenced the results.

Kvasova added that there are not enough studies confirming the significant benefits of kombucha for human health. However, data on its harm has also not been received. She recommended considering kombucha as a way to diversify the diet, rather than as a treatment, and recalled that a balanced diet, sufficient fiber, physical activity, and stress reduction remain the foundation of health. In addition, the specialist advised to follow the rules of preparation and storage of the drink to avoid the appearance of mold.

The doctor also explained why the usual kombucha is more often called a kombucha today. According to her, we are talking about the same drink: in Russia and the CIS countries, the name "kombucha" has historically been fixed, while in many other countries the Asian name "kombucha" is used. The origin of this word is associated with the Japanese words "kombu" (algae) and "cha" (tea).

Nutritionist Elena Solomatina said on July 7 that any okroshka can be turned into both a healthy and a harmful dish. In order to make the dish healthy, you should replace the sausage with meat, such as lean beef, veal, chicken or turkey.
