In Ukraine, they announced the risk of the country not surviving the upcoming winter
The Ukrainian energy system may not be able to withstand the coming winter due to the continuation of hostilities and lack of funds. This was announced on July 30 by political scientist Alexander Dudchak.
"On the one hand, the Ukrainian energy sector is affected by the continuation of hostilities, on the other hand, by systemic underfunding. As a result, there is a risk of simply not surviving the coming winter," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The political scientist recalled that the previous heating season had passed without serious consequences due to the absence of severe frosts, but even then the critical wear of the energy system was noticeable. According to him, the situation has continued to deteriorate since then.
Dudchak said that energy problems could affect not only domestic heating, but also the work of important enterprises, including ports. According to him, this may have an impact on the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The expert also noted that the Ukrainian authorities understand the complexity of the situation and are trying to get additional support from Western countries, but, in his opinion, it is impossible to completely eliminate the existing problems.
Energy expert Stanislav Ignatiev also noted on July 28 that the upcoming winter could be the most difficult for Ukraine during the conflict due to the critical state of the country's energy system. The expert noted that the facilities of the Ukrainian energy system were destroyed or significantly damaged. According to him, a difficult situation is developing with energy facilities in Kiev.
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said on July 27 that the upcoming winter could be one of the most difficult for the country. According to the head of state, Ukrainians need to prepare for serious challenges in the cold season.
