Reshetnikov called Armenia's demands to Russia on the Southern Railway groundless

In the case of a unilateral revision of obligations under the South Caucasus Railway (SCR), Armenia's possible demands for additional payment from the Russian Federation are groundless. This was announced on July 30 by the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov.

"SCR is not a "free" asset of a Russian company, but an enterprise in which we have already invested more than 30 billion rubles, purchased new rolling stock and are developing infrastructure based on contractual obligations. If these obligations are unilaterally reviewed, and our investor is harmed, we will have grounds to demand compensation," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Reshetnikov added that in the current situation, Yerevan's possible demands for additional payments from Moscow are groundless.

On the same day, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Yerevan plans to resolve the issue of the concession for the management of Armenian railways with Moscow in a friendly atmosphere. This topic, he explained, was not raised in the last telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Armenia's position remains unchanged.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, said on June 28 that the severance of Russian-Armenian economic ties could have serious consequences, primarily for Yerevan. He drew attention to the fact that ordinary people can suffer from this in the first place.
