A unique temple ring with decoration was found during excavations in Pskov

A unique temporal ring with spiral decoration was discovered in Pskov. An unusual decoration was found in the Olginsky‑10 excavation site on Paromenskaya Street, the press service of the regional archaeological center reports.

This is the third such find in the territory of the regional capital. The previous two also come from the Olginsky excavations. All three specimens were found in the layers of the XI-XIII centuries.

As noted by the Pskov news feed, thanks to the painstaking work of the restorers, the original appearance of the ring can be seen.

Such temporal rings are mainly concentrated in the Danube-Balkan region (Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania). Just over 30 specimens have been found in Eastern Europe, confirming their rarity outside the main range.

These ornaments were used in the X-XIV centuries, they were mostly common in the second half of the XI-XIII centuries. The rings came to the territory of Russia as rare goods or as personal belongings of immigrants.

Earlier it was reported that in Pskov, at the site of the monument to Prince Dovmont, during excavations, a comb made of walrus, elephant or mammoth bones was discovered. The find was made in the layer of the XVIII century.
