Belozerov reported on the fulfillment of Russian Railways obligations under the concession in Armenia

Russian Railways (RZD) consistently and fully fulfills all its obligations under the concession in Armenia. This was announced on July 30 in a statement by the head of the concern Oleg Belozerov.

He noted that Russian Railways reacted with bewilderment to press reports about a possible charge for the lease of Armenian railways.

"The concession gave Armenia a modern railway, while freeing the budget from the costs of its restoration and maintenance. Dividends were never paid to the shareholder, all profits went to the development of the railway," the document says.

In particular, YUKZHD CJSC and Russian Railways jointly eliminated the consequences of the devastating Debed River spill in 2024. The cost of the work was then financed by the Reserve Fund. Investments from Russian Railways and the income of the SCR itself amounted to about $396.3 million, which is fully confirmed by the documents of the Concession Agreement, one of the parties to which is Yerevan.

"For our part, we intend to firmly adhere to the agreement, and if the Armenian side is considering the possibility of terminating it or changing the terms, we have the right to expect a return on our investments," Belozerov said.

On the same day, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Yerevan plans to resolve the issue of the concession for the management of Armenian railways with Moscow in a friendly atmosphere. This topic, Pashinyan explained, was not raised by him in his last telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Armenia's position remains unchanged. The Republic considers the railways to be its property and only it has the right to decide exactly how to use them.

On February 13, Pashinyan offered Russia to sell its concession for Armenian railways. According to his initiative, the buyer was supposed to be one of the countries friendly to the seller, to which he referred, among others, Kazakhstan.
