Ophthalmologist Anton Kazantsev told us in which cases it is forbidden to wear contact lenses. In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, July 30, he noted that contact lenses should not be used for inflammatory eye diseases, allergic reactions and conjunctivitis.

According to him, in such cases, a person needs glasses, especially if he has a high degree of myopia, because without alternative vision correction, he may experience serious difficulties in everyday life.

The expert emphasized that glasses and contact lenses do not replace, but complement each other. He also noted that if the lenses are used correctly, hygiene rules are followed and they are not worn during sleep, they do not harm the eyes.

In May, ophthalmologist Konstantin Baryshev spoke about the rules of using contact lenses when traveling outside the city. The best option would be to use one-day lenses that do not require cleaning.

In March, doctor Anna Toltayeva warned that the habit of sleeping in lenses can provoke micro-injuries to the eyes and increase the risk of inflammation. If the lenses are not designed for sleep, they restrict oxygen access to the cornea and disrupt the exchange of tears, and the lack of blinking during sleep contributes to the accumulation of microbes and pollutants on the surface of the eye.
