The expert spoke about the future of Orthodoxy in Ukraine

The Ukrainian authorities are ousting canonical Orthodoxy from the country. This was stated by former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Oleinik in an interview with Izvestia.

"The authorities of the country have set a course for the ruin of the Pochaev Lavra. Government agencies demand a public denial of ties with the Russian Orthodox Church (Russian Orthodox Church. — Ed.). The monks, I think, will not agree to this. As a result, a conflict will begin, officials will be involved in clashes and intimidation of activists of nationalist organizations, and street confrontation may escalate," he said.

Earlier it became known that the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (GESS) recognized the Pochaev Lavra as "affiliated" with a foreign religious organization, whose activities are prohibited in the country, that is, with the Russian Orthodox Church. Officials gave the monks 30 days to eliminate the "violations." If this is not done, the process of eviction of the fraternity may begin.

The Pochaev Lavra, located in the Ternopil region, is the largest Orthodox monastery in western Ukraine and the second in Ukraine after the Kiev Caves Lavra.
