Experts have announced an increase in the availability of car loans in Russia
In the second quarter of 2026, the average loan rate for new cars in Russia decreased to 10.1%, and the amount of car loans decreased relative to the results of the first quarter. Experts from eCredit (part of <url>) told Izvestia about this on July 30.
In the segment of used cars, the share of approved applications continued to grow and reached 66% by the end of June, while the average rate decreased by almost 1.5 percentage points (pp).
According to experts, from April to June, the approval rate of applications rose by 3%, breaking the 77% mark, and exceeded the figures for the fourth quarter of 2025. The average amount of a car loan, as well as the cost of a car, remained virtually unchanged at 1.84 million and 2.76 million rubles, respectively. It is noted that 41% of new car buyers paid more than half of the cost immediately during the specified period, and 6% of borrowers made minimum contributions (up to 10% of the cost of the car).
"The second quarter showed a positive vector of market movement. The average rate is about to exceed 10%, which may become an additional incentive for consumers to make a purchase," predicts Nikita Margolin, head of sales at eCredit.
As for the used car market, the approval rate for applications has also increased significantly, from 63% to 68%. The average loan amount increased by 2% to 1.58 million rubles, while the average cost of a car remained almost unchanged at 1.92 million rubles.
Another positive signal was the reduction in the average rate for a used car to 20.17%, which is almost 1.5 percentage points lower than in the first quarter of this year. One third of borrowers chose an initial payment of 20-30% of the loan amount, while more than half of the cost was made by 14% of consumers. More than half of all loans in this market segment in the second quarter were issued for a period of seven years.
According to NBKI data as of July 28, in June 2026, the average amount of car loans issued was 1.57 million rubles. This is 19.5% more than in June last year, and 0.6% more than in the previous month. In June, 100.2 thousand car loans were issued for new and used cars. This result was 3% less than in the previous month, but 12.7% more than in June last year.
