Only 19% of Russians under the age of 30 turned out to be homeowners.

Only 19% of Russians aged 18 to 30 own their own home, while 41% continue to live with their parents, and another 27% rent an apartment. This is evidenced by the results of a study by Ingosstrakh and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation on housing conditions and plans of Russians (available to Izvestia).

In general, 63.8% of the respondents have their own apartment or house. Another 17.5% live in housing owned by relatives, and 7.7% rent property from outside owners. At the same time, by the age of 41-50, the share of owners increases to 76%, which suggests that for many Russians, buying their own homes remains the task of the second half of life.

The study also showed that the majority of Russians do not plan to change their living conditions in the coming years, 63.1% of respondents said. Among those who intend to resolve the housing issue, 10.5% are considering buying a home with a mortgage, 8.4% expect to purchase real estate with their own savings, and 5.6% will limit themselves to repairs.

The main criterion when choosing a home remains its cost — 59.3% of potential buyers are guided by it. Among other significant factors, respondents named the possibility of obtaining a mortgage (27.6%), transport accessibility (25.4%), the developed infrastructure of the district (20.9%) and security (13.8%).

More than half of future buyers (56.9%) plan to purchase a one—room apartment, and another 31.3% plan to purchase a two-room apartment.

"These studies demonstrate that for the majority of Russians, housing is the main asset they have been investing in for years. At the same time, not everyone thinks about its protection — an apartment or a private house remains vulnerable to household risks. The property insurance policy allows you to protect your invested funds and maintain financial stability in the event of an unforeseen situation," commented Vasily Kurguzov, Director of the Ingosstrakh Housing and Property domain.
