- The Russian ambassador accused Oslo of encouraging the build-up of Germany's military presence.
Oslo encourages the build-up of Germany's military presence on its territory. This was announced on July 30 by Russian Ambassador to Norway Nikolai Korchunov.
"We recall with a shudder the tragic consequences for our country, Europe and the whole world that such aspirations of Berlin have led to, and twice in the last century," the diplomat shared in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Korchunov urged Norwegian politicians not to forget about these events, especially the fact that during the Second World War it was Nazi Germany that occupied the territory of Norway, and then the soldiers of the Red Army liberated the country "at the cost of their lives."
Korchunov said on July 25 that Norway, together with its partners in the North Atlantic Alliance, is purposefully following an escalation course in the Arctic region, significantly increasing the overall risks of dangerous incidents. The ambassador added that the parallel build-up of NATO's military presence in the circumpolar latitudes completely undermines trust and devalues the effectiveness of previously established communication channels between the defense departments.
