The death toll from the earthquake that occurred on July 28 in the Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto has reached 28 people. This was announced on July 30 by the Secretary General of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan, Minoru Kihara.

"As of 06:30 (local time, 00:30 Moscow time. On July 30, the death toll from the earthquake reached 28 people," NHK quoted him as saying.

Kihara noted that the death toll is based on police data, but the exact connection between their deaths and the earthquake has not yet been established. He also explained that the discrepancies in calculations between the government and the Kumamoto authorities are related to different sources of information.
