On July 30, Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Fair Russia party, proposed to establish an additional pension payment of 5,000 rubles for each educated child for retired mothers.

"We propose to pay extra 5,000 rubles to current pensioners for each child they have raised. This is the only correct and fair decision," Mironov said in an interview with TASS.

According to the politician, the current pension system does not sufficiently take into account the period of raising children. During this time, a limited number of pension points are accrued, and the maximum increase can be about 2 thousand rubles if the woman had earnings before going on maternity leave.

Mironov noted that due to the current calculation procedure, there may be a significant difference between the payments of women who raised children and the pensions of those who did not have children. According to him, if there are two or more children, the difference can reach 10-15 thousand rubles.

The party chairman stressed that women who devoted years to raising children often gave up on career growth and suffered financial difficulties during motherhood. In his opinion, this situation may affect the attitude of young women to having children.

Igor Balynin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, announced on July 30 that the amount of maternity benefits in Russia for the average salary in the country for standard maternity leave with a single pregnancy could amount to 438.6 thousand rubles. The expert explained that when calculating the payment, the earnings from which the insurance premiums were paid for the two calendar years preceding the maternity leave are taken into account.
