- Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Fedorov spoke about the reasons for his resignation.
On July 29, former Defense Minister Fedorov called the reason for his dismissal not an alleged quarrel with former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Syrsky, but his ongoing reform of the defense procurement system.
"First of all, it was said that there is a certain conflict, but in principle, I think that the reasons generally lie elsewhere. <...> The reason related to procurement, tenders, and the fact that we have begun to restructure processes in this direction has caused great dissatisfaction among many people," — He said in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda.
Fedorov said he did not know the exact reason for his dismissal, but believed that pressure from his entourage could have influenced the decision of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. According to him, the reform of the defense procurement system has affected the interests of many people and companies. He also admitted that the government reshuffle could be a cover for his resignation.
On July 15, Fedorov confirmed his resignation with a farewell message. The Ukrainska Pravda newspaper reported that Zelensky on the same day announced the existence of a protracted conflict between the Minister of Defense and the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
