- In Transbaikalia, a fortune teller lured pensioners out of all their money and gold
Pensioners from Transbaikalia were robbed by a fortune teller from a neighboring region. She took all the money and gold jewelry from the elderly for a total of 115 thousand rubles, the press service of the regional police reported on Wednesday, July 29.
The incident occurred in the village of Domna, Chita region. An unknown woman asked to visit a married couple under the pretext of providing esoteric services, writes ChitaMedia news agency.
The stranger demanded to give her all the available money and valuables, wrapped them in a handkerchief and allegedly performed the ceremony. Then the witch returned the package and told me to unwrap it only after she left. When she left, the villagers realized that they were left without money and gold.
As a result of the operational search measures, it was possible to establish the identity of the suspect. She turned out to be a 39-year-old resident of the Irkutsk region, previously convicted of similar crimes. The malefactor was detained in Shimanovsk and taken to Chita.
During a personal search, the suspect was found to have gold jewelry, which she allegedly stole in the Shimanovsky district. It turned out that the repeat offender traveled around the regions and stole money and valuables under the pretext of fortune-telling. She specifically chose villages and remote settlements.
A criminal case was opened against the woman under Part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Theft causing significant damage." The person involved is currently in custody. She could face up to five years in prison.
Earlier, Izvestia wrote that fraudsters can use various schemes to deceive Russians on the subject of AI esotericism. The turnover of chatbots in messengers for obtaining fortune-telling, birth charts and fortune predictions can reach 50 million rubles, which makes them attractive to scammers.
