Medvedev called the number of sanctions against Russia prohibitive

The number of sanctions imposed on Russia is exorbitant — no country has ever been subject to such a number of restrictions in history. This was announced on July 29 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.

"In fact, our country is being tested for strength in every sense of the word and from an economic point of view, since the number of sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation is exorbitant. There is not a single country in the world, and in history there has never been such a number of sanctions, about three tens of thousands, imposed," Medvedev said at a session of the Territory of Meanings forum.

The deputy chairman of the Security Council noted that Russia feels political pressure from all sides, as its opponents have always tried to undermine the state, regardless of its name — whether it is the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union or the modern Russian Federation. According to him, they do not like a big, strong, proud and self-sufficient country that cannot be commanded.

The United States has imposed import duties, and the Pentagon has expanded the list of organizations that allegedly pose a threat to national security.

On July 23, the EU Council approved the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, which includes restrictions on 48 individuals, 170 organizations, as well as 94 Russian banks and large financial institutions. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 27 that Moscow would soon announce retaliatory measures.

Peskov noted on July 27 that Russia has adapted to the sanctions and knows how to live and develop under pressure. According to him, the West has few sanctions tools left that would not strike at their own interests. He noted that the new restrictions may be sophisticated, and the policy of containing Russia will continue.
