The expert named a possible outcome of the conflict between Georgia and the European Union

The Georgian authorities are trying to maneuver, but they are not going to abandon the course of the country's accession to the European Union (EU). This was stated by Shota Apkhaidze, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, in an interview with Izvestia.

"There is a trade between the West and Tbilisi. The European Union continues its campaign against the Georgian authorities, who are trying to encourage Brussels to engage in dialogue. I do not think that the Georgian Dream is actually ready to officially abandon the idea of European integration. They themselves have done a lot to join the EU, besides, they are afraid of the opposition and street unrest. They will probably speculate on this topic, but it won't go beyond words," he believes.

Earlier, the speaker of the Georgian parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said that for a small state, staying outside the EU may be more profitable than joining the union. According to him, a sovereign state will retain the freedom to make independent decisions.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze noted that the actions of Brussels had led to a decrease in the confidence of the Georgian people in the European Union.

"Our people see that the European bureaucracy is hostile to them, and they express this with concrete steps," he stressed.
