The next stage of forest restoration took place in Transbaikalia. About 332 thousand pine seedlings were planted in the Baleysky district on an area of 166 hectares, the press service of the regional government reported on Wednesday, July 29.

The reforestation project has been implemented in the region since 2020. During this time, about 750 thousand seedlings were planted on a total area of more than 212 hectares using modern agricultural technologies.

In particular, seedlings with a closed root system are used — this reduces damage to plants during transplantation and increases their survival rate. After planting, the young trees are monitored and cared for for three years.

According to ChitaMedia news agency, the restoration of forests is carried out within the framework of the national project "Ecological well-being".

Earlier, Izvestia wrote that Russian botanists are creating a map of the genetic diversity of rare relict plants. It will allow to assess the state of their populations, identify the genotypes that are most in need of protection, and will also become the basis for artificial breeding programs.
