A new version of the Geely EX5 hybrid will appear in Russia

A new modification of the Geely EX5 crossover called the EM-R with a sequential hybrid powerplant will enter the Russian market. This is stated in the message of the press service of the Chinese brand, which was received by Izvestia on July 29.

The Geely EX5 EM-R will be the third in the line after the all-electric version and the parallel-serial hybrid EX5 EM-i, in which the gasoline engine can be connected to the front wheels. In the new version, the internal combustion engine is not directly connected to the wheels and serves to drive the generator to automatically recharge the traction battery to increase the range.

An atmospheric internal combustion engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters and a power of 99 hp is paired with an E-DHT automatic transmission with a hybrid electric drive. The maximum power of the electric motor is 218 hp, the maximum torque is 262 Nm. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes 8.1 seconds. The power plant of the EM-i version has exactly the same indicators. The maximum power reserve is not specified.

The charging time of a lithium iron phosphate traction battery from 30% to 80% is 20 minutes when using fast direct current charging. The battery can be charged from a household AC network or from high-power DC stations. When the battery on the car is completely discharged, you can continue driving, since it is recharged by an on-board generator powered by an internal combustion engine.

Geely noted that since entering the Russian market in December last year, the Geely EX5 EM-i crossover has shown an increase in popularity and is in high demand. In the first six months of 2026, the crossover took the second place in terms of sales in the segment and became the best-selling hybrid among models supplied to Russia directly from China. In June, the EX5 EM-i took the first place in sales, and in the first three weeks of July, 1,848 vehicles were sold.
