The Interior Ministry told about a fraudulent scheme aimed at taxi drivers

A new fraud scheme targeting taxi drivers and consumer services workers has been identified in Russia. This was reported on July 29 to the Department for the Organization of the Fight against the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that the attackers place an order through taxi services, indicating in the comments that the trip will be paid for by transfer using a bank card number. After that, they contact the driver and, under the pretext of transferring funds, convince him to provide the full card details and the confirmation code received in the SMS message.

After receiving the requested information, the criminals log in to the victim's bank application and steal funds from the account. Experts warn that such a criminal scheme can be used not only against taxi drivers, but also against other service sector workers.

"Never share your card number, CVC code, or personal information with your interlocutor," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.

How effective can blocking websites selling such devices be?

Ilya Wolfson, a State Duma deputy and member of the Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, said yesterday that fraudsters began using house chats to gain access to Russian accounts on the Gosuslugi portal. So, the attackers introduce themselves as employees of management companies and invite residents to join the general chat at home. According to the deputy, after transmitting the SMS code or clicking on the suggested link, the victim "gives away the keys to his own life."
