The researchers talked about the impact of the absence of tourists from Russia on the Greek economy

Northern Greece, including the regions of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki, turned out to be the territory that was most affected by the absence of travelers from Russia. This was announced on July 29 by the Institute of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (INSETE), a research organization.

"The negative development of the tourist flow from Russia seems to have had the greatest impact on Northern Greece, especially on Central Macedonia (Thessaloniki and Halkidiki)," the RIA Novosti institute reported.

According to analysts, Russian tourists spent on average more money per person in this region compared to visitors from other countries. At the same time, INSETE stressed that over time, Greece managed to compensate for the loss of the Russian market segment at the expense of travelers from European countries. The deficit was also filled by tourists from long-range countries, in particular from the USA, Canada and Australia.

A study by the OneTwoTrip travel planning service, reviewed by Izvestia on July 2, notes that the total volume of hotel bookings abroad for the 2026 summer season increased by 10% compared to last year and amounted to 28.2% of all bookings. As a result, the greatest increase in Russians' interest was recorded in Latin American countries, where Peru became the leader, showing a fivefold increase in the share of bookings. This is followed by Chile and Panama, where interest has increased 4.7 and 4.5 times, respectively.
