The State Duma proposed to introduce paid leave to care for retired parents

Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) proposed introducing additional paid leave for a period of three to five calendar days per year for employees who need to accompany their parents of retirement age for medical examinations, treatment or rehabilitation. He sent a corresponding appeal to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov, the text of the document was quoted by TASS on July 29.

The parliamentarian asked to consider the possibility of making changes to labor legislation in order to consolidate the right to such leave for cases related to providing assistance to elderly relatives. He also suggested defining a list of grounds for its provision and a mechanism for documentary confirmation in order to exclude abuse.

Chernyshov noted that currently working Russians caring for elderly parents are often forced to use their main vacation, take days off at their own expense or negotiate with their employer individually. In his opinion, the new support measure will allow families to take care of the older generation more effectively and increase the availability of medical care for pensioners.

At the same time, there is no provision for co—financing from the budget - as employers will be involved in transferring payments for employees.

The leader of the Fair Russia party, Sergei Mironov, said on July 17 that fathers of newborn children should be given five days of paid leave. Currently, according to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, an employee is granted five days of unpaid leave at his request in the event of the birth of a child, marriage registration or death of close relatives.
