The earthquake in Japan killed at least 13 people.

At least 13 people have died as a result of the earthquake in Japan. This was announced on July 29 by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

"13 deaths have been confirmed as a result of an earthquake with an epicenter in the Kumamoto region," the Yomiuri newspaper quoted her as saying.

A powerful earthquake struck the Japanese island of Kyushu this morning. The magnitude was estimated at 7.1. The first earthquake was followed by the second with a magnitude of 6.1.

After the earthquake, an explosion was heard at the Aeon Mall Kumamoto shopping center in Kashima village, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, and part of the outer wall collapsed. At least 50 people were injured in the disaster, including no Russians. The explosion could have been caused by a gas leak. In addition, 12 cases of house collapses, four incidents where people were trapped in buildings, damage to bridges and roads, and several fires were recorded.
