On July 28, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called on Ukraine to compensate for the damage after an attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea.

The Iranian foreign minister discussed the situation with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrei Sibiga, who called the incident unintentional and said that Ukraine was not seeking escalation.

"Iran also does not seek escalation, but has made it clear that any attack on our citizens or interests is unacceptable. It is necessary to compensate for the losses," Arakchi wrote on the social network X.

On July 25, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had attacked an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea. As a result, an explosion occurred on the ship, one sailor was killed and another was injured. The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Charge d'affaires of Ukraine. Araqchi called on the European Union to respond to the incident.
