Pashinyan's wife announced threats after publications about domestic violence

Anna Hakobyan, the wife of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said on July 28 that she began to feel threatened by her life after allegations of domestic domestic violence.

"After I raised the issue of domestic violence, I feel my life is in danger. I hope that the government services will be able to prevent this, because the country's reputation will be seriously damaged if the prime minister's wife becomes a victim of violence," she said in a video posted on her Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

Hakobyan also called on women to speak openly about psychological, physical and sexual violence. According to her, this problem affects all women, regardless of their political views, education and social status.

Later, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia reported in an interview with Sputnik Armenia that proceedings had been initiated based on the statement of the Prime Minister's wife. The agency did not provide any other details.

Key political opponents of Pashinyan have become defendants in criminal cases.

The New York Post reported on April 9 that in the United States, a married couple, Casey and Mary Kano, were accused of years of bullying six children, who, according to investigators, were starved and forced to eat insects. It was clarified that earlier, in 2022, a husband and wife were convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.
