The Church of the Ascension of the Lord was opened in Moscow after the restoration

After the restoration, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, one of the first stone tent churches in Russia, was opened in the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve in Moscow. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in his channel in Maks.

The mayor recalled that the restoration work had been going on for two and a half years. "Experts have reinforced the brickwork, restored the white stone decor, gilded the cross and decorative apple on top of the tent, preserving the historical appearance of the unique monument," he wrote.

Divine services will now be held in the church on the days of the great Orthodox holidays, as before. The temple will continue its work as a museum.: Both the worship space and the basement (lower floor) of the church are open to visitors, where an exposition is unfolded telling about the history of the church and the acquisition of the Sovereign Icon of the Mother of God.

Visitors will be able to enter the temple space only during the warmer months. An exhibition dedicated to the history of iconostases and the Feast of the Ascension has already been placed there.

The Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Kolomenskoye is a famous monument of Russian architecture. Its building was built in 1532, the site is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In March, Sobyanin announced that since 2011, more than 150 churches had been restored in Moscow under city programs, including subsidies to religious organizations. In 2026, work will continue on more than 50 sites. "We pay special attention to the preservation of religious monuments," stressed the head of the capital.

Last year, the restoration of 14 religious cultural heritage sites was fully completed in Moscow. Among the restored buildings, for example, the bell tower in the Kuskovo estate, the Church of the Assumption in Veshnyaki and the Transfiguration Cathedral of the Novospassky Monastery.
