SVR OF THE Russian Federation: The EU is aware of the inevitability of a deep crisis in Armenia upon its withdrawal from the EAEU

Many EU countries signal their unwillingness to open markets for Armenian goods to the detriment of their producers. This was reported on July 28 in the press office of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation. Contacts of the Armenian leadership with the Russian authorities

On July 1, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin had a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The sides discussed issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Moscow and Yerevan. Later, Pashinyan announced his intention to develop relations with Russia.

On July 6, the Armenian Prime Minister stressed Yerevan's interest in the full-fledged operation of the mechanisms of the Eurasian Economic Union treaty. He noted that the republic is determined to participate in the EAEU. At the same time, on July 27, Pashinyan, in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, asked for a solution to the problem of restrictions on the export of Armenian goods to Russia.

What is known about the EU countries' position on Armenia

According to the press bureau of the SVR of the Russian Federation, many European countries have already signaled to the leadership of the European Union about their unwillingness to open markets for goods from Armenia. European structures recognize the growing economic problems in the EU. They are conditioned by the anti-Russian sanctions policy and the desire to support the conflict in Ukraine.

Such actions do not allow Brussels to compensate Armenia for billions of dollars in costs. In addition, the EU requires Yerevan to reduce the presence of Russian business in strategic sectors. There are also demands to sever humanitarian ties with the Russian Federation and suppress opponents.

What consequences do Armenia expect when moving towards the EU?

The SVR noted that the EAEU countries will not sponsor Yerevan's movement towards the European Union. The income from participation in the Eurasian integration will be reset. This will not ensure Armenia's sustainability at the expense of the Member states.

According to the agency, bureaucrats continue to convince the country of unconditional support. At the same time, the economic realities of the EU limit the possibilities for compensation of losses. It is reported that similar signals have already been received from a number of European capitals.
