Moscow schools, which have been renovated by the beginning of the school year, are equipped with modern biology classrooms, said Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of the capital.

According to him, as part of the My School program, the Moscow authorities pay great attention to creating high-tech spaces for studying biology. "This year, 100 reconstructed schools will reopen their doors. To equip them, we have purchased more than 1.6 thousand microscopes of a new generation that provide three—dimensional images," the mayor wrote on his personal blog. Microscopes, in particular, are equipped with digital video cameras that transmit images to a large screen. This technology will be convenient both for the teacher, who will be able to explain the material more clearly, and for students who report on their work.

Also, special preparation magnifiers are needed to solve many problems. "We will supply almost 1.3 thousand such magnifying glasses to the renovated biology classrooms," the mayor said.

In addition, biology classrooms will receive about 1.5 thousand visual demonstration models of the internal structure of various animals and birds, as well as about 2.4 thousand skeletal models of fish, amphibians and birds. Collapsible models of the brain, heart, lungs, eye, ear, jaw and teeth are purchased to study human anatomy.

Sobyanin noted the growing interest in biology among Moscow schoolchildren, pointing out that this science "opens the doors to the most advanced industries — from fundamental and applied medicine and bioengineering to the high-tech agricultural sphere and ecology."

"This year, more than 12,000 ninth graders took the OGE in biology, and 4.7 thousand of them scored an A," the mayor said. "More than 10.2 thousand eleventh graders chose the Unified State Exam in this subject, and about 2.7 thousand children scored 80 points and above."
