The blogger who staged the provocation on Mamayev Kurgan explained his act

Russian blogger Svyatoslav Kovalenko, who threw a large bill into a fountain on Mamayev Kurgan in the Volgograd region, told Izvestia about the reason for his actions. According to him, he didn't have any change, so he put in 5,000 rubles.

Kovalenko shared that since childhood he had seen visitors throwing coins there. Having no change with him, he left a five-thousandth bill in the water and continued his walk.

About an hour later, the Volgograd resident returned and noticed how people were looking at the money in surprise. Then he decided to film their reaction on the phone.

"It just became interesting for me at the moment to film the reaction, how people react and what they will do next. I had no intentions of defiling or offending anyone. I couldn't even imagine that this would cause a storm of discussions," the blogger said.

He apologized to those whom his actions might have offended.
