On Monday, July 27, Luiza Aliyeva, cardiologist, assistant professor at the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases No. 2 at the Pirogov University Medical Center, spoke about the negative impact of energy drinks on health.

In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru She noted that the main active ingredient of most energy drinks is caffeine, and its content can vary significantly depending on the manufacturer and the volume of the jar. In addition, drinks often contain guarana, sugar or sweeteners, taurine, and plant extracts.

According to the expert, caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, which is why, after consuming energy drinks, the pulse may increase, blood pressure may rise, anxiety, trembling, dizziness and sleep disorders may appear.

The doctor noted that for most healthy adults, a single intake of up to 200 mg of caffeine and up to 400 mg per day is usually not associated with serious consequences. It is important to take into account the caffeine not only from energy drinks, but also from coffee, tea, cola, sports supplements and some medications.

Alieva warned that special care should be taken for people with hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies and other cardiovascular diseases. Energy drinks are also not recommended for children and adolescents, and pregnant women should limit their total caffeine intake to 200 mg per day.

In addition, the cardiologist urged not to combine energy drinks with alcohol, since caffeine only creates a feeling of vivacity, but does not reduce the degree of intoxication, which increases the risk of drinking large doses of alcohol, blood pressure spikes, arrhythmia and dehydration.

To reduce the health risk, the doctor advised checking the caffeine content on the package, not drinking several cans in a row, and not using energy drinks as a substitute for proper sleep and rest. If chest pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath, prolonged palpitations, confusion or other alarming symptoms occur after drinking the drink, you should immediately seek medical help.

On July 24, Yana Shramko, a doctor of medical prevention, said that lemonades, energy drinks and fruit drinks are particularly dangerous for diabetes. According to her, liquid sugar quickly increases blood glucose levels, which can be dangerous for people with diabetes. 360.ru .

In June, Olga Ulankina, a doctor, spoke about the effect of sweets on blood pressure. Caffeinated drinks such as coffee, strong tea, and energy drinks can also lead to a temporary increase in blood pressure. This effect is especially noticeable in people who rarely consume caffeine, writes RT.

Nutritionist Margarita Koroleva also pointed out the dangers of using energy drinks. According to her, this can lead to depression. Narcologist Andrey Tyurin spoke about the consequences of combining alcohol with energy drinks. According to him, in this scenario, the load on the heart increases dramatically, which can provoke tachycardia and other diseases, IA Regnum notes.

Anastasia Hritova, a dentist at Pirogov University, warned that energy drinks cause a "double blow" to teeth due to the combination of acids and sugar, which accelerates the destruction of enamel. An additional threat is the high sugar content, which serves as a breeding ground for cariogenic bacteria, NSN clarifies.
