The expert assessed the consequences of student protests in India

Youth protests in India against corruption in the education system have nothing to do with the initiatives of other states interested in destabilizing the situation in the country. Alexey Kupriyanov, head of the Center for the Indian Ocean Region of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Izvestia about this.

"There has long been a problem with leaks of exam materials. In addition, given the problems with unemployment and youth dissatisfaction with what is happening, protests broke out by several tens of thousands of fairly educated young people, with whom [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi does not want to quarrel," the political scientist explained.

The expert stressed that otherwise the positions of the ruling BJP party in the major cities of the north of the country may suffer.

"And Modi can't afford it, because the urban population is a stronghold of the BJP electorate. So far, the situation looks quite calm in the sense that Modi sacrificed the Minister of education," the expert noted, noting that a minister loyal to the prime minister took his place.

The former minister of education, according to the interlocutor of the editorial board, is likely to remain in Modi's team, he will simply be moved to another position.

"If everything ends like this now, then there will be no problems at all for the Modi government. On the contrary, this will be a demonstration that the Modi government cares about the needs of students and is ready to meet them halfway, because students are the future of India," the analyst concluded.
