Sergunina summed up the results of the bid campaign of the Moscow International Composer Competition

The first Moscow International Composer Competition received over 160 applications, said Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of the capital.

"The new cultural project attracted composers from 10 countries. These include Belarus, Malaysia, Turkey, Italy and the United States," she said.

Musical authors from 37 Russian regions, from the Kaliningrad Region to the Primorsky Territory, also submitted applications.

The competition, organized by the Moscow Department of Culture, was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Soviet counteroffensive in the Battle for Moscow. There are two nominations: "Large form" — works for academic large choir and symphony orchestra — and "Small form" — music for mixed academic choir a cappella. The winners of the first, second and third degrees will be determined in each category.

The work will be evaluated by a jury. It will include Alexander Sokolov, Rector of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, and Alexander Ryzhinsky, Rector of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. The expert commission will be headed by People's Artist of the USSR choral conductor Vladimir Minin.

The winners will be announced in December, they will receive cash prizes (the prize fund is 10.5 million rubles), as well as the opportunity to record their work in digital format.
