The expert warned about the mistakes of driving a car with a turbo engine

Most problems with turbocharged engines are caused not by the design features, but by the way they are operated. This was told by Vadim Strelbitsky, director of the Avilon Kia Mechanical repair department, who listed the main mistakes of drivers.

"The most common mistake is to step on the gas sharply immediately after starting the engine. In the first minutes, the oil still does not have time to reach the optimal operating mode, so the turbocharger is under increased load. It's enough just to start driving calmly and avoid sudden accelerations for a few minutes, this is quite enough for the engine and turbine to return to operating mode," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Strelbitsky as saying on July 27.

Another common mistake is to turn off the engine immediately after a long road trip or active driving instead of letting it idle for about a minute. The fact is that the turbine does not have time to cool down enough, and the remaining oil can overheat and eventually form deposits, the expert noted.

The specialist also pointed out that a turbocharged engine is much more demanding on the quality of the oil and its condition than an atmospheric one, so it is not recommended to postpone the replacement of the lubricant or use an unsuitable liquid. In addition, the turbine wears out faster due to a dirty filter. Strelbitsky noted that with normal maintenance, turbo engines can travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers without problems.
