An internationally wanted Russian citizen has been detained in Thailand.
A Russian citizen has been detained in Thailand, who was on the international wanted list on suspicion of being in charge of one of the largest transnational organized criminal groups (OCGs). This was reported by the Thai Post newspaper on July 27.
"The detainee is accused of leading a criminal organization that commits serious crimes in the form of a transnational network, including cases of fraud on an especially large scale," the text says.
It is clarified that the man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was identified by the immigration Bureau of the Royal Thai Police. As part of the operation, they learned that the Russian was not only wanted, but had also exceeded the permitted period of stay in the country.
A warrant has already been issued for the arrest of the wanted man. In the future, it is planned to extradite him at the appropriate request from the Russian side.
Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, reported on June 19 that a Russian citizen, also accused of fraud on a particularly large scale, had been deported from Turkey to Russia. It was noted that the man and several of his accomplices operated in 2018-2019. Then they gained the trust of their victims and took over the properties they owned. The damage caused by the actions of the attackers amounted to over 262 million rubles.
