- The Federation Council urged Burnham to think about the security of Britain instead of Ukraine
Russia is greatly surprised by Britain's aggressive support for Ukraine. This was announced on July 27 in an interview withLenta.ru " First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabarov.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Andrew Burnham said that London would not back down from supporting Kiev until a "lasting and just peace" was achieved. Jabarov recalled the statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin about the imminent deployment of Poseidon submarines, which pose a danger to any enemy of Russia.
According to him, the UK should not think about Ukraine's security, but about its own.
"We should not wave our hands, helping the Nazi regime, but think about our own safety. No one is stopping them from living and developing normally, and you are trying to get into trouble. They may run into an answer," the senator said.
Political scientist Alexander Dudchak, a leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries, shared his opinion in a comment to Izvestia on July 20 that Burnham's appointment would not lead to noticeable changes in the country's foreign and domestic policy. The expert also explained that changes in the UK's relations with Russia should not be expected. According to him, London will maintain its support for Ukraine and continue to pursue its previous foreign policy line.
Matthew Gordon Banks, a former member of the British Parliament, told Izvestia at the same time that Burnham, together with the new government, could try to make efforts to normalize the economic situation in the country amid the crisis. At the same time, according to his assessment, Britain's policy towards Israel, Ukraine and the Middle East under the new government will remain the same and will not undergo significant changes.
