An attempt by parents to replace a tutor on their own in case of a child's learning difficulties can lead to stress and deterioration of family relations. Vladislav Portnyagin, the founder of the private school "Honest" in Tyumen, an expert in the field of entrepreneurship in the field of education, told Izvestia on July 29.

"Even if mom or dad knows the subject perfectly, it's not enough. It is important not only to have knowledge, but to be able to present it correctly so that the child really understands. The lack of pedagogical education and special techniques often leads to the fact that the parent's explanations only confuse the student," said Portnyagin.

The expert emphasized that the role of a parent and the role of a teacher require different approaches. The parent should remain a source of support and safety for the child, while the teacher evaluates knowledge, points out mistakes and demands results. If these functions are combined, the house can turn into a place of constant monitoring of studies.

Portnyagin noted that parents' emotional involvement often makes it difficult to objectively perceive a child's difficulties. A student's mistakes can cause irritation and anxiety, and phrases like "it's easy" can reduce motivation and desire to understand the topic.

Another problem is related to the difference between the school curriculum and the approaches of parents. Even an adult who knows the subject well can explain the material using old methods, which is why the child has to use different ways of solving problems at the same time.

According to the expert, parents also may not always notice gaps in basic knowledge. For example, a child in 8th-9th grade may experience difficulties due to undeveloped fundamentals that prevent them from studying more complex topics. The teacher is able to identify such gaps and build consistent work.

"We should not forget about the value of time together that is not related to studies. For a child's harmonious development, walks, heart—to-heart conversations, common hobbies and just the opportunity to relax after school are necessary," said Portnyagin.

The expert added that the task of parents is to support the child and help him develop independence, and in case of serious difficulties— contact specialists who can choose the appropriate teaching methodology.

On July 26, art critic, founder of the art Academy and creator of educational programs Beatrice Nechaeva said that creative activities help children express emotions, develop independence and cope with age-related crises. According to the expert, the phrase "I am myself!" in childhood is not a whim, but an important stage in personality formation.
