More than 70% of German citizens surveyed are dissatisfied with the work of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The relevant information follows from a survey conducted by the INSA sociological institute for the German newspaper Bild.

"Chancellor Friedrich Merz is struggling to overcome his low approval rating. According to INSA, 75% are dissatisfied with his work, 18% of respondents are satisfied," the article says.

Only 19% of respondents said they were satisfied with the work of the CDU/CSU coalition and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), while 74% were not.

The authors of the article note that the resignation of the chairman of the CDU/CSU faction in the Bundestag, Jens Spahn, caused a "blow" to the ratings of the federal government amid the surrogacy scandal. Span resorted to the services of a surrogate mother in the United States, whereas in Germany this procedure is prohibited.

"According to the survey, the SPD loses one percentage point, gaining only 12%. The CDU/CSU maintains its result at 21%. Together, the government is gaining 33%, compared with 45% in the 2025 federal elections," the survey results show.

The Greens are two percentage points ahead of the SPD and are the third most powerful party. Alternative for Germany loses one point, but remains the strongest party in the poll with 28%.

On June 6, Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, commented on the anti-record set by Merz in terms of popularity among the population. He expressed bewilderment at what exactly the German chancellor had done, that only 15% of respondents were satisfied with his work.

On May 27, Sarah Wagenknecht, the leader of the German Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) party, demanded the resignation of Merz, who by his decisions is leading the whole country to decline. She predicted that if this did not happen in three years, the state would be beyond saving.
