Moscow attaches great importance to the memory of the Great Patriotic War for the peoples of Russia and Kazakhstan. This was stated on July 25 by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Putin said that in Omsk in the winter of 1945, Tokayev's father Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich was undergoing treatment after being seriously injured.

"This once again underlines the reasons why we attach great importance to the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the contribution of our peoples to the victory over Nazism," Putin said.
