Yampolskaya supported the introduction of the oral part of the Unified State Exam in humanitarian subjects

The proposal of the head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, to develop the oral part of the Unified State Exam (USE) in humanitarian subjects and to study the oral exam in history after the 9th grade was the right decision. This was announced on July 23 by Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.

She noted that the introduction of new technologies and the emergence of neural networks can help students answer written questions. However, artificial intelligence (AI) is unlikely to help build oral skills.

"The model is being prepared for implementation until 2030. I think that the position is very correct. <...> A person completing his school education and receiving secondary general education should learn how to communicate, give reasoned answers, and formulate his thoughts competently and clearly. To respond quickly to additional questions, to be able to hear a question, to be able to understand this question, to interact, to be in a dialogue. This is very important," she said during an audio briefing.

Yampolskaya added that colleagues had also voiced a proposal to introduce a separate subject "Culture of speech" in schools, but such a section would be widely presented in the new state Unified State Exam textbooks in Russian language and literature.

"The formation of speech culture occupies a significant place in these new textbooks. Within the framework of the basic course, all opportunities will be provided for the formation of a culture of speech. <...> And the oral part is, of course, a very important part, especially when a child is taking an exam in the Russian language. And in terms of history, of course," she noted.

Muzaev noted on April 30 that the mandatory oral history exam for 9th grade graduates would come into force no earlier than 2028 and was scheduled to be held in February. He also stressed that the departments do not plan to make the new exam format excessively difficult in order to avoid rejection from students, noting the importance of forming interest in the subject of "history".
