The case of blogger Naki about calls for activities against the state has been submitted to the court

The criminal case of blogger Michael Naki (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent), accused of publicly calling for activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation, has been submitted to the court. This was reported to Izvestia on July 23 in the instance.

The case will be considered on its merits in the Basmanny Court of Moscow. In August 2023, the blogger was sentenced in absentia to 11 years in a penal colony in the case of fakes about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He was also banned from administering Internet resources for five years.

On July 22, the Moscow City Court fined Naki, who left the country, for ignoring the requirements of the Russian law on the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent. The amount of the penalty was 40 thousand rubles.

On July 10, the main investigative Department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia announced that the investigation of the criminal case against Naki had been completed in Moscow. It was established that no later than May 2024, the blogger posted on the video hosting a publication calling for activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation (paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code, "Public calls for activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation"). Later, on March 4, 2026, a corresponding criminal case was initiated.
