ADAC expert accused German oil companies of inflating prices
Oil companies in Germany artificially inflate prices. This was announced on July 23 by Katarina Luka, a representative of the largest public organization of motorists in Germany, ADAC.
"Currently, the price of fuel is too high, taking into account the current level of crude oil prices, as well as the euro-dollar exchange rate. That is, we can say that prices are artificially inflated. We believe that, first of all, oil concerns are obliged to set prices in such a way that they are truly fair," Luka said in an interview with the Welt television channel published on the Youtube channel.
According to her, if this does not happen, the antimonopoly authority should "study this situation more closely."
"We hope that oil companies will eventually set prices that are understandable to consumers, and that no "holiday surcharges" will be introduced at the beginning of the tourist season, so as not to force motorists to pay even more," the expert urged.
Luka also advised drivers not to refuel at gas stations along the autobahns, where prices are usually higher, but to compare fuel costs in advance and plan refueling stops when traveling abroad.
The Bild newspaper noted on July 19 that a new wave of escalation of the conflict over Iran has led to a sharp increase in gasoline and diesel prices in Germany. According to the newspaper, on that day, a liter of Super gasoline cost €2,328 on average in the country. The price of E10 gasoline rose to €2,274, and for diesel — to €2,305. In one week, diesel fuel has risen in price by 6.7 cents per liter.
Alice Weidel, leader of the Alternative for Germany opposition party, said on June 30 that Berlin should stop boycotting Russian oil and gas, as the weakened German economy demands it. She also added that before the sanctions were imposed in 2022, Russia supplied more than a third of crude oil to Germany and more than 50% of natural gas.
