In Yerevan, a criminal case was opened against the deputy of the "Strong Armenia" bloc Karapetyan

A public criminal prosecution has begun in Yerevan against Narek Karapetyan, an elected deputy from the Strong Armenia opposition bloc. The Armenian Prosecutor General's Office announced this on July 22.

"The prosecutor has initiated a public criminal prosecution against Karapetyan," Sputnik Armenia agency said in a statement.

According to the prosecutor's office, the deputy is suspected of obstructing meetings and laundering criminally obtained funds. Karapetyan himself called the criminal prosecution politically motivated. In a video message, he stated that in modern Armenia, submitting a political application is already considered a crime.

"The onslaught cannot stop us, the prison cannot stop our struggle," he wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation).

In a joint statement, the parties noted that the court's decision does not eliminate the issue of the legitimacy of the formed government.

According to the election results, only three political parties entered the Armenian parliament following the results of the last elections: Pashinyan's Civil Contract party — 49.7456% (726,819 votes); Strong Armenia bloc — 23.271% (340,060 votes); Armenia bloc — 9.923% (144,983 votes).
