Not all fumigators that people use to protect themselves from insects are safe for pets. Veterinarian, zoopsychologist and felinologist Angelina Sirotina warned about this on Wednesday, July 22.

In an interview with Radio 1, she noted that conventional fumigators can contain substances toxic to pets, so it is better to use special veterinary sprays in a pet house. They are designed with animal safety in mind, most often made on the basis of essential oils and help protect against mosquitoes, flies, ticks and fleas.

The specialist noted that even an unsuitable fumigator can cause an allergic reaction in humans, and negative consequences develop much faster in animals.

If a pet becomes lethargic, refuses to eat, has salivation, dilated pupils, loss of coordination, vomiting, coughing or shortness of breath, it is necessary to contact a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Sirotina added that veterinary sprays can be sprayed not only indoors, but also directly on the animal — if used correctly, they are not toxic to pets.
