Luigi Esposito, a sports journalist, was killed in Italy.
An investigation has begun in Italy into the murder of sports journalist Luigi (Luca) Esposito, whose body with burn marks was found in an agricultural area of the Eboli commune in the province of Salerno. This was reported by Rai News channel on July 22.
"Esposito was most likely the victim of a (possibly intentional) crime committed after a brutal beating that resulted in broken bones. Then they set it on fire to eliminate all traces," the publication says.
It is specified that the final causes of death will be determined after additional research. Law enforcement authorities have not yet linked the murder to Esposito's professional activities and are considering as the main version related to his personal life. The investigation is also investigating the circumstances of the last hours of the journalist's life and his entourage.
Special attention is paid to Esposito's statements about his work at the regional environmental protection agency. The agency stated that he had never been their employee and had no professional ties with the organization.
