The new Range Rover GT cross-coupe has been announced

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is preparing to launch a new model under the Range Rover brand, the GT electric cross—coupe, which will become the fifth car in the line after the flagship Evoque, Velar and Sport. The company positions the model as the lightest Range Rover in history. The first images of the car were shared by the manufacturer's press service on July 22.

In terms of design, the Range Rover GT combines the features of a crossover and a classic Grand Tourer. The car features an understated fit, elongated silhouette and a coupe-like profile, which makes it closer to sports liftbacks and station wagons than to traditional SUVs. Externally, the novelty partly echoes the Range Rover Sport — in particular, the shape of the front and narrow lighting — but has more dynamic proportions.

The interior of the model is designed in a minimalistic style with an emphasis on digital solutions. The cabin has a narrow dashboard, a large central multimedia system display and a floating center console. The steering wheel has touch controls with thick horizontal spokes. At the initial stage, the GT will be available in a four-seat configuration, later there will be a variant with a five-seat cabin.

At the start, the model will be offered exclusively with an all-electric powertrain, with a hybrid version expected later. The car is based on the modular EMA platform.

Martin Limpert, managing director of Range Rover, said the new model "will rethink the Gran Turismo segment, offering a combination of expressive design, comfort for long-distance travel and capabilities unattainable by traditional vehicles in this class."

The Range Rover GT's technical specifications are expected to be revealed before the end of the year. The company has not yet specified the dates for the start of sales and deliveries.
