Russia has joined the proceedings of Lithuania and Belarus in the UN Court

Moscow, as a third party, intends to join the Lithuanian-Belarusian migrant smuggling trial, which will be held at the United Nations International Court of Justice (UN). This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry on July 21.

It is noted that Russia's official statement was made on Monday, July 20. For this purpose, a declaration has been submitted to the International Court of Justice, the document is published on the court's website.

"The Russian Federation has officially announced its intention to enter as a third party into the proceedings initiated by Lithuania in 2025 against the Republic of Belarus on the basis of the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants, supplementing the Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. <...> We are convinced that this is in the interests of the entire international justice system," the agency's website says.

The diplomats believe that Russia's participation in the process will contribute to the correct and fair interpretation of the Convention and Protocol, in accordance with their provisions and the norms of general international law.
