In our opinion, this is a shock: what premieres of TV series are waiting for Russians in August

August is not the best month for fans of TV movies: producers are waiting for the end of the holiday season and summer holidays in order to fight for viewer attention with renewed vigor in September. This is probably why most of the August premieres include crime thrillers: even if you don't have to wait for variety, you need to tickle the audience's nerves in full! Whether it's the domestic detective series "The Number of the Beast" or the dark Scandinavian action game "Blood Sacrifice," suspense is guaranteed. Izvestia tells about the most interesting TV premieres in August.

Ann Jacobson lives in ever-rushing New York City with her twin brother Connor and foster father Stephen, who raised them as his own children. However, on the day Ann turns eighteen, she learns that her Canadian grandfather, whom she has never seen, left her an island in his will. The girl decides to go to Canada and explore her new possessions, not knowing that this decision will drastically change her life. She will face unexpected danger, find new friends and true love, as well as learn a lot about the dark history of her real family.

The main role was played by Anna Rubin ("Anora"). Berlinale Silver Bear winner Jay Duplass and Dean Morgan, known for The Walking Dead, also starred in the series. The picturesque nature of the mysterious island was filmed in Toronto, Canada: the showrunner of the series, Canadian Megan Park, did not miss the opportunity to promote the ecological well-being of her homeland.

1981, Los Angeles. A group of golden youth from a prestigious private school does not count their parents' money, hanging out at the most expensive clubs and the most prestigious parties in the city. They see the future as clear and cloudless, and the path to happiness and success as straight and uncomplicated as a walk in the park. But unexpectedly, a maniac appears in the city, killing the rich and famous. The investigation believes that the criminal is taking revenge on the "cream of society" for the evil that was once inflicted on him, but the police are unable to uncover his plans and predict who will be the next victim. And then a company of rich schoolboys decides to figure out and catch the villain on their own...

The series is based on the novel of the same name by one of the largest contemporary writers in the United States, Bret Easton Ellis, who gained worldwide fame after the film adaptation of his other work about the dark secrets of the powerful — the novel "American Psychopath." The creators took the filming of "Fragments" seriously — the director was Max Winkler ("Adult Games"), the main roles were played by multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Evan Rachel Wood and BAFTA Award winner for best supporting actor in "American Beauty" Wes Bentley.

1993, Russian countryside. Prosecutor's office investigator Alexei Kirsanov is crossing the path of the leader of a local organized crime group, and now his life and his wife's life are in danger. The salvation is a transfer to the Yaroslavl region, where Kirsanov's longtime friend and colleague Igor Sazonov recently took over the prosecutor's chair. Having barely settled in his new place, the investigator is faced with a brutal murder: a maniac destroyed an entire family by writing the biblical number 666 in blood on the bodies of the victims (the Satanism movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). Only an eight-year-old boy remained alive. After examining the archives, Kirsanov finds out that about ten years ago, two exactly the same brutal murders occurred in the region. The investigator suggests Sazonov to combine the cases and start hunting for a maniac, but Sazonov really does not want to start a career in a new place with a report to the leadership about a serial killer ...

The production was directed by Alexei Bystritsky ("The Order", "The Guard", "The Murderers"), who has long worked in the genre of crime thriller, the main role was played by Igor Palamarchuk ("Pilgrim", "Archipelago"), also an experienced master of detective action. The project was originally supposed to be released in 2023, but it was postponed time after time. Hopefully, it took the creators that long to bring the spectacle to perfection. The series fits into the growing trend of noir thrillers, referring us to the criminal background of the Russian province at the end of the last century, so it has every chance after the premiere to take a prominent place in the rating of series from Medialogia.

"Lanterns"

Galactic heroes from the Green Lantern Corps keep order and protect the law in all parts of the universe, boldly standing in the way of villains. Two guards are assigned to investigate a strange murder in Nebraska. One of them, Hal Jordan, has been with the Green Lanterns for a long time and has seen all sorts of horrors in different parts of the galaxy. The second, John Stewart, is taking the first steps in the fight against evil, and he will not only have to master the diverse opportunities that their corps provides to the Green Lanterns, but also decide for himself who he is, what his life purpose is, and why he goes out to battle galactic villains every day.

Green Lanterns is another series in the DC Universe franchise. Kyle Chandler ("Kingdom", "The Day the Earth Stood Still"), who played Jordan, and Aaron Pierre ("Genius", "Time"), who played Stewart, perfectly play a broken couple — a kind of Goofball and Seasoned from the Midwest. They intersperse the disclosure of a villainous intergalactic conspiracy by solving their own problems, trying to find a common language with their relatives and colleagues: Hal with Carrie, the sheriff of a small town next door, and John with his own parents. The franchise has already been well developed, unpleasant surprises are not expected, fans of the genre must watch.

"Blood sacrifice"

In the dead of night, the Stockholm police received a call — an unknown person reported an illegal entry into a private dwelling. Two policemen went to the named address, where they found a summer house on one of the small islands of the Swedish capital. The patrol only managed to report that the house was empty — and fell silent, as it turned out, forever. The patrolmen were found dead the next day. This high-profile crime was the first in a series of brutal murders of Stockholm police officers. Despite the desperate efforts of the investigators, they fail not only to track down the perpetrators, but also to understand the logic of their actions or predict where the next attack will take place. In the end, Detective Thomas Berg, who is leading the case, is forced to involve his father, a retired detective, in the investigation. Father and son have been at odds for a long time, and now they have to not only find a common language, but also work together to apprehend the killer...

The showrunner of "Blood Sacrifice" is Briton George Kay ("Hijacked Flight"). Initially, the detective series was planned to be called simply "The Case," but in the end, the creators decided to give Macabre. It's not surprising, though: "The Bloody Victim" was shot by Dane Kristoffer Nyholm ("Murder"), a master of the true Scandinavian detective story, where all the colors are blurred, all the voices are muffled, and behind every turn of the plot there is an underlying madness. For this, however, they are loved by fans of the genre.

"Learned ladies"

The series tells about the role of women in science, about the fates of our outstanding compatriots who made their way among scientists in a constant struggle against the prejudices of a society that considered scientific studies an exclusively male occupation. Each of the series of the project is devoted to one of the scientific disciplines — mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, meteorology, geology, microbiology and astronomy. Each of them tells about outstanding women scientists, each of whom not only achieved recognition in science, but also significantly advanced their field of knowledge.

The series is made in a non-standard format: documentaries, interviews and animated footage are woven into the video sequence, turning the dry lines of the textbook into an entertaining emotional story. Our contemporaries working in science have become full-fledged co-authors and collaborators of the project. Their successes and the confidence that they have found their place in life not only energizes the viewer, but also clearly shows what a tremendous job humanity has done over the past century and a half, getting rid of their own prejudices.
