By sending its military to Africa, Ukraine intends to counteract Russia. Viktor Mizin, a leading researcher at the IMEMO RAS Center for International Security, said this on Tuesday, July 21.

"Ukraine is on the side of those terrorists who are against Russia. Kiev wants to confront Moscow everywhere. Another important factor is that African countries have all kinds of natural resources, which, of course, is very important for both Ukraine and Russia," he said in an interview with the Focus Mail.

The political scientist noted that Ukraine is also interested in staying in Africa in connection with the usual PR.

"The third point is to declare yourself as a supposedly world—class power. We can recall how Ukraine helped the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf with drones, since they are being attacked by Iran, being allies of the United States. That is, I think this is a completely targeted strategy that will continue to be pursued," Mizin said.

According to the expert, for Russia, such actions by Ukraine are an incentive to move even more actively in Africa and directly advertise the assistance that Moscow "provides to its friendly African countries."

"We see that now, for example, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov meets more often with African foreign ministers than with some other figures from other parts of the world," he concluded.

Earlier, on July 20, Director of the Department of Sub-Saharan Africa Russian Foreign Minister Anatoly Bashkin said that French and Ukrainian specialists are actively involved in planning terrorist operations in Africa. 360.ru .

He clarified that this is specifically about the planning process, and not just about the transfer of intelligence, RT reports.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko said on July 17 that the Ukrainian military is in several African states and is trying to form a "second front" against Russia there. Borisenko noted that the presence of Ukrainian mercenaries has been recorded in other countries, he cited the example of Sudan.
