The Russian delegation at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Russian President Vladimir Putin will lead the delegation to China, and the summit will be held on November 18-19 in Shenzhen. This was announced on July 21 by the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large for the Group of Twenty (G20) and APEC, Marat Berdyev.

"The Russian delegation will be headed by President Vladimir Putin. This shows the importance we attach to economic relations with our partners in the Asia-Pacific region. — ed.), in particular with China," he said in a conversation with TASS.

The diplomat added that Russia highly appreciates the Chinese side's approach to building APEC's potential to boost progress and prosperity.

According to Berdyev, the current year at APEC will be very eventful and productive. China stated the importance of creating a thriving community in the Asia—Pacific region and outlined three main vectors - openness, innovation, and cooperation, the diplomat said.

Also on June 14, Berdyev assessed the possibility of an APEC meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump. He noted that it is quite difficult to predict such an event, although the leaders had previously met at the APEC summits. Berdyev doubted that contacts between the leaders would take place at the upcoming summit in China.

Berdyev reported on June 11 that a number of Western countries were trying to set up APEC participants against the Russian bid for the chairmanship of the organization. In particular, this position is taken by Australia, New Zealand and Canada. At the same time, he stressed that Russia has every reason to apply for the APEC presidency, since it already headed the association in 2012.
